Focus Retreat · Berlin or Brussels

The thinking your calendar doesn't make room for. In person. One continuous day.

Your calendar is designed for everyone else's priorities. Back-to-backs, 30-minute check-ins, async messages demanding quick takes. The time to actually think — to sit with the question that matters and follow it until it resolves — doesn't exist unless you build it.

This is that day.

The premise

Most coaching happens in one-hour slots, two weeks apart. That works for ongoing development. It doesn't work when the question needs more than an hour of continuous thinking, or when the fragmentation itself is the problem.

A retreat is a different instrument. One block of time. One problem. One person in the room whose job is to hold it with you until it's clear.

Phone in a box at the start of the day — literally. It comes out at lunch, goes back in, comes out again when we're done. No meetings after. No "let me think about it and get back to you."

What it's for

The format is fixed; the frame is yours. Most clients bring one of three:

01
Re-anchor
Upstream
You need clarity on what matters for the period ahead. You're not yet at the decision; you're figuring out which decisions are even the right ones to be making.
02
Resolve
Midstream
You need to close a specific decision that keeps not closing. You know roughly what matters; you're narrowing to a single choice and committing to it.
03
Design
Downstream
You need to build the architecture that makes focus stick. You know what matters and what to do; the problem is that your current system doesn't protect it.
If your question doesn't fit cleanly in one frame, pick the one that's currently blocking you. The other two usually resolve once that one does.

Format

Half-day · 4 hours

One question, pressure-tested

A sparring session for a question you've already shaped — challenged, sharpened, and locked in.
Best when You've already done the thinking and need a sparring partner to challenge it and help you lock it.
Both include
  • Pre-work. A questionnaire, a short Loom from me, one priming exercise — about 30 minutes total. So we don't spend the first hour of the day getting oriented.
  • A 30-minute call after the pre-work is in, to align before the day.
  • The retreat itself, in person.
  • A written synthesis of what emerged, within 48 hours.
  • One follow-up call, two to four weeks later, to check in.

The last hour

The closing 30–60 minutes of the day aren't discussion, they're construction. Before you leave, three things exist:

  • 01
Time blockers placed in your calendar.
  • 02
At least one reset mechanism, designed and activated.
  • 03
The follow-up call, booked into both calendars.

So you don't leave with only good intentions.

Who it's for

Leaders with high autonomy and disproportionate responsibility — the combination that makes deciding what actually matters, and executing on it, the hardest part of the job.

Senior consultants Founders NGO directors Politicians EU policy leaders Senior operators inside large organisations
Not a wellness day. A thinking day. You'll leave tired.

Confidential

What happens in the room stays in the room. For cases where a document matters, a mutual NDA is signed before the pre-work.

About Daniel

I help ambitious leaders and teams build the focus to match.

Ex-BCG, ran campaigns in EU politics, built organizations from the ground up. Most of the people I work with are independent consultants, advisors, and fractional executives who have everything except a day that protects thinking time for the project that actually matters.

The frame is coaching, the method is architectural. The retreat isn't a workshop — it's one continuous day where we map where your focus breaks, make the decisions you've been circling, and leave with the week rebuilt around what matters.

I run a handful of these a quarter.
